Nye Hjorten Teater – Wayfinding and Signage System
The wayfinding for Nye Hjorten Teater was designed to connect the theatre’s history, architecture, and identity into one clear and cohesive experience. The concept draws from the theatre’s Art Nouveau and Art Deco influences, reinterpreted through clean geometry, brass detailing, and a sense of craft that feels both timeless and contemporary.

Each sign carries the essence of Hjorten — the “H” for Hjorten paired with a ticket-like frame that runs through the entire system. The result is a visual language that feels at once familiar and new, blending decorative detail with modern precision.

From the first sketch to the final installation, every step was done in close collaboration with the architects, directors, and signage manufacturers. Each location was tested on-site to ensure the best visibility, readability, and alignment with the building’s flow and materials.

Over 300 signs were designed and produced, accompanied by a detailed manual outlining dimensions, materials, and mounting details. Every decision — from typography to placement — was made with care to ensure clarity and consistency across all spaces.
The finished system quietly supports the theatre’s rhythm, helping visitors move naturally through the building while preserving the character and warmth that make Nye Hjorten Teater feel like home or cake.
