Olgas — A Neighborhood Bistro with a Spark

Olgas is a new neighborhood bistro inspired by Trondheim’s cultural pioneer, Olga Topp. The identity blends Art Deco and Art Nouveau elegance with the unpretentious charm of Italian-American diners—creating a space that feels both familiar and bold.

The goal was to design a brand that balances warmth and character, honoring Olga’s legacy while standing out in Trondheim’s evolving food scene. The visual identity needed to feel at home next to Nye Hjorten Teater, yet strong enough to grow into its own independent concept.

The guiding idea, “Med glimt i øyet”—“With a spark in the eye”—shaped everything from logo to tone of voice. The geometric logo and signature “eye” symbol express cheeky hospitality and attention to detail. The color palette draws from fresh produce and Norwegian landscapes, and the photography captures candid, joy-filled dining moments.

Across print, digital, and environmental design, the identity balances simplicity and play. The watchful eye becomes an animation motif for the website—always observing, always welcoming. Every element is designed to evoke presence and personality rather than perfection.

Olgas quickly became a local favorite, fully booked months before opening. More than a restaurant, it’s a reminder that design, like food, is about care—crafting experiences that nourish both body and spirit.
